I need more motivation to exercise. I set goals for myself (reasonable ones) and I never reach them because I become lazy. I start off good, but then... So I was wondering what the rest of you guys do to keep yourselves focused and motivated.

Good thread idea. Personally I'm motivated by the way I feel when I work out. It makes me feel powerful and can bring me out of the dumps on the worst day. Sports and exercise and such is my stress reliever and one of the things that really helps to clear my mind. So if you can just motivate yourself by thinking of how awesome you'll feel when you're done, that might work!

My role models movtivate me, and sometimes, when my b/f makes me soo pissed, and once and awhile puts me down (about my weight) i get my ass going on the treadmill, so i can show him, that I CAN lose weight. My family also motivates me, they also say i'm fat, so they get me mad and going as well, so that's what motivates me to exercise.

There is one method that works for me.
I tell my brain, ok only 3 minutes of exercise. So I PUSH myself for 3 minutes. After 3 minutes, you start to feel good and sometimes keep going because you actually WANT to exercise. It doesnt work for everyone but you can give it a try.
Also learn to take breaks. If you over-work yourself when you first start working out, you will lose motivation quickly.

Um, my boyfriend. He's a fitness freak, lol, and does loads of exercise and weights, etc. Also, I want him to like my body. Well, I know he does and I don't feel the need to "impress" him, but I want it to be nice for myself, and for my self-esteem.

Oh yeah and i personally believe that caffeine is unhealthy and kills ur teeth.....well at least makes then a lovely yellow sheen!

I'm motivated mostly just because I hate how I look. But I really have trouble getting up lots of motivation, and I'm trying to push myself this summer.

I'm motivated because I want to stay in shape for skiing over the summer.
As for motivating yourself, here are somthings that might help.
1. Have a reason to reach your goal. Just saying or thinking I want to reach this goal might not be enough. Say I want to reach this goal because......... You fill in the blank
2. Tell other people you goals. This makes you feel more motivated to reach them because otherwise whoever you told might not think you can do it.
3. Have a partner. Having somone who wants to reach the same goals as you helps you become motivated to keep up with them. this theory works better if your partner is a little better then you because then your motivated to catch up to them rather then it they're not quite as good as you might make you slow down.
Listening to music also helps. And have fun!! If it's not fun then your more likely not to do it.
Wow I sound like a fitness trainer..... I got most of that from some book that is supposed to build confidence and stuff like that, It helps it really does!!

What's motivating me right now is that I will be training to become a fitness instructor in the fall, and I thought it might be an idea if I got fit before doing that.

And ppl like Bruce Lee...
I mean he was 5ft5 and had one foot longer than the other. And he became one of the greatest martial artists of the last century!

Right now, my motivation is the 80-year-old men and women at my gym, who are all faster than me on the treadmill. Grrr.

My family motivates me. We all have gym passes and all talk eachother in to going. My dad and I compete on the treadmill, which is fun. My sisters always encourage me to go farther or try harder. My moms always praise me when I do better than I did before. I also love the feeling. I used to hate going so much. No I enjoy the way I feel while there and after. I like seeing my goals being reached. They seemed so impossible before, but now they are actually coming close. I can almost fit into my old shorts. A few days ago I ran my first mile without stopping, and now I run it almost everyday.
