The martial arts - one of the greatest and most fulfilling physical activities of all time. A great discipline indeed, for a means to protect oneself along with a way to keep oneself fit are not often found hand in hand. Yes, I'm involved in the martial arts as well and have been for over five years. My style is American Tae Kwon Do (or generically, karate, as most choose to call it around here), but I would love to get some experience in the many other styles out there - namely Kung Fu, which has fascinated me for quite some time. Currently, I am training for my third degree black belt in which I hope to receive in two more years time. It feels great to have come this far .

Wow RAgebox! That is a good long way into a Martial Art... its hard to survive in one no matter which one it is. Most people run away from the training after the first lesson beacuse it tends to be quite difficult. What i hate tho is that people regard every martial art as karate and that it is a general teaching of how to fight people. Martial art is a way of life. In the same way a football player's way of life concenrtates around football. Its a way to behave in general in life. Its like a religion. I personally do Kenshukai Karate - similar to Shotokan, but subtley different. I'm not far into it at the moment - 3 belts up ...but am getting there. I used to do Shotokan and have always been interested in Wing Chun Kungfu and Drunken Master. Thai kickboxing is also something i want to learn one day. Is American TKD like normal TKD? What Kungfu are u interested in? If u wanna chat abt stuff, there's loads I've learnt thru the mistakes i make...like becoming angry hmm...

Wow, you seem very dedicated, and that's great to see. I wish there were more people around here like that. You should be very proud. Well, American Tae Kwon Do is more of a mix of styles than anything else. It most similarly derives from Tae Kwon Do but incorporates other types of martial arts. The entire style was, for the most part, established by Grand Master Jhoon Ree, but my school system (USA Karate) has branched off from him, also. So we do all sorts of different things during our classes: self-defense, traditional katas/forms, sparring, some grappling, and variously different weapons are some examples. Still, I would love to try something new - mainly because the USA Karate system is so family oriented and I'd like something maybe even more 'disciplined' than that. You know, Muay Thai Kickboxing would be interesting, too. Many people from our school system have migrated over to that neck of the woods, and most seem to like it a lot. But I think the reason why Kung Fu appeals to me so much more is the fact the I'm a fan of fluid but powerful movements. It's so gracefully done. As for what type of Kung Fu I like the most, I'm not even sure. There are just so many styles. Besides, I still probably don't know enough about each one to make a sufficient choice. It's more of a general choice for me, since there's so many good points to each style out there. Like I've said before, I'd just love to try something new and a bit different. You're lucky you've been able to practice so many different martial arts; I wish I could. Maybe I can use the training I've had as sort of a stepping stone into different styles in the future, but I'm not sure if and when it will be possible. One thing I've learned is that training in the martial arts can get very expensive. Besides which, my entire family is signed up for the lifetime program, and I'm not sure if even seeing about different martial art types would be possible. Maybe in the future when I'm on my own I'll see about those myself. I hate to wait that long, but it's most likely the only possibility I have at the moment. Sorry this is so long, but I tend to get on a roll when I have so much to talk about .
