As most of you know from my previous thread, I'd like to see a rule implemented about netspeak on these boards. What does everyone else think?

My previous post: *Steps on soapbox* This has been irritating me for quite some time, so I'm bringing it up now. I'm tired of seeing deliberate misspellings, aka "netspeak", done on these boards. I really do not see what is so hard about spelling a word properly. It is not hard to type "Y-O-U"; it's only 2 more letters than the letter "u" by itself. A "sum" is a mathematical function; "some" is what you use when describing part of something. From now on, if I see deliberate misspelling ("netspeak") used by anyone, I will warn that person. Five warnings for this one, and you're gone. It's too hard to read posts that aren't typed properly, and it's a waste of time trying to decipher them. Want respect here? Type properly. EXAMPLES: GOOD: I see you at the store sometimes. BAD: i c u @ the store sumtimes. Everyone got it? Questions? Feel free to PM me. *Steps off soapbox*

I think this is ridiculous. We have enough trouble with board activity, we dont need to start banning people for making asses of themselves.

I don't think it's fair to ban Netspeak. Yes, it can be annoying, but it's very easy to just skip the post.

^^It's harder to skip those posts when they're currently the majority of posts on these boards... How about this as a compromise? No warnings or bannings, but everyone should pay attention to what they write, and try not to make so many mistakes and to type properly. It really kills me to see the English language being destroyed, and I think that watching what you write is an easy way to prevent that from happening. A final anecdote: Estro v2.0 had a no-netspeak rule, and it worked perfectly. Hardly anyone complained about it; in fact, most people preferred it.

Sure it can be irritating to see a bunch of abbreviations, but it just reflects on the poster. Then again look where the netspeak is. In a fluff or fun thread you would expect it, I can understand the annoyance in a discussion. If we're going to warn people about bad spelling the Admins are going to be awfully busy since we all do it.
But, in a the Love life stuff, is "L8's" really that bad? And seeing as how this board hasn't been very active in the last few weeks, the last thing we need to do is warn or ban people for sloppy spelling.
The business world is alot worse with its stupiditizing words like "info" More info, what the hell is "info?" And my personal favorite. Xtra, one more letter and you got it.

I don't agree with you, Sarah. I think people should write how they want to.

Look guys, I'm sorry. I wrote before I thought. I think I'm gonna leave this poll open for a couple more days, then lock it. Then we can just ask people to watch what they write ok? And yes, Toxic, I do find it annoying, in any thread, to see a bunch of "l8's". No wonder the correct use of the English language is dying out...

This is one of those things I find so stupid it's funny. I think you all know what my answer my is. Now, I'll make my point.
I agree. It's not that hard just to type two other letters. If someone can type one letter they should be able to type three letters just the same. But (always a but), what about lol? Hmmmm... lol=3 charactars, laugh out loud=14 characters (both including spaces)! Now that's a pretty big difference.
Maybe I missed something? I thought rules had to approved my the head admin. Which I believe would be Fyre. I haven't seen any posts from Fyre on this. Where's Fyre when we need her!?
Bill Gates is a billonaire. I'm not. And this is Cloud Nine, not Estro v2.0.
So, if this rule was passed we couldn't post @ symbols? People would have a blast typing in emails then. Wouldn't that be interesting?
I think my point is made. No need to say anything else. C'ya.

I didn't say "@" couldn't be posted at all, it can be used where it's appropriate. Nice mis-interpretation there. And Bill Gates did not own Estro - it was owned by young adults, just like myself. They were not millionaires. I don't see what your reference is supposed to mean.

My point is this is a whole different place! Should we be exactly like another place? What if everyone acted the same? It'd be a boring place. And if every web site was the same, it'd be a boring net.
And the question I really wanted answered has not been answered. Shouldn't all *new* rules be approved the head admin? I don't see why you should be given the right to make any rules you want. I'm the head over a church forum and if one of the admins don't listen to me, I fire them. Period. And I think that's what should be done with you.

Considering that Fyre isn't around much anymore, I've been trying to salvage the boards while I can, to help her out. Anyway, what is this, a campaign against me?! Say YES to netspeak?! All I tried to do was help out around here, and I get attacked. I can sorta see why Midnight resigned - it's tough when no one's on your side. Sheesh...

Sarah, no one is against you. Right now with such a drop-off in activity here it's just not an issue right now. Maybe later when this board gets a larger amount of more consistent members and posting picks up.

Toxic, I know YOU'RE not against me. But certain others seem to be. Anyway, this vote will be locked tomorrow evening. Whatever the results is will stand.

Look, Erik1089, stop picking on Sarah. She brought up an idea for a new rule, there is some disagreement, but don't turn this into a flame war. I'd hate to see something like this blow up. (Whoa, I've mellowed. Remember when I was actually bitchy?) Toxic, I know YOU'RE not against me. But certain others seem to be. Anyway, this vote will be locked tomorrow evening. Whatever the results is will stand. Isn't tomorrow a bit too soon? Taking into account the board's current activity status...
