The only one I can think of now is the Harry Potter movie. I really liked it, but I think it's not half as much fun if you haven't read the book. Oh, and the Lord of the Rings movie. But I didn't see it. [shadow=white,left,300] ~*Esther*~[/shadow]

"The Princess Bride" by S. Morgenstern (?? not sure if i'm completely correct on that.) i've seen the movie and read the book, and i love them both. hehe. Jurassic Park was also a book before it was a movie. uhh, the religious book Left Behind.... those are the first few off the top of my head.

I just have to add that the books are almost always better than the movies.

To Kill a Mockingbird is one, even if it's not a new movie. I do believe Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is another one, but I'm not sure.

Personally, I prefer to read the book first. When reading a book, you use your own imagination to imagine the setting, characters, etc. It's much more thought-provoking. When seeing the movie, however, there's not nearly as much left to the imagination.

Where The Heart Is, was a book before it was a movie.... y'know it's that one where Natlie Portman plays a girl who had her baby in WalMart.
Riding in Cars With Boys - this movie (with Drew Barrymore) is based on a book that a woman wrote about her own life.

I saw "about a boy" lately, the film was much better than the book. Almost all Jane Austen classics, every Maigret or Agatha Christie book ever written, Brigit Jones Diary, a lot of childrens books (secret garden, pippi longstocking), a room with a view, portrait of a lady...
I'm sure there's many many more

James and the Giant Peach was turned into a movie. I don't know if anybody mentioned that. A lot of books have become movies. I almost always enjoy the books a lot more, though.
