What books do your teachers make you read? Were they aweful? Or were they good?
My teacher made our class read 'The Hobbit.' Ugh, I hated that book. It was so boring! I didn't even read half of it. Then we had to read 'A Wrinkle in Time' which was actually pretty good...but the end was kind of confusing. ;D

Pretty much every book that I have to read because of school I will not like. Such as 'The Scarlet Letter', 'Shane', 'Animal Farm', etc. I don't know why but if I'm forced to read a book I won't enjoy it. But like I read 'A Separate Peace' for an 8th grade English class and I hated it but now after rereading it for my own entertainment I liked it.

Just recently I had to read The Scarlet Pimpernel for English. GAG! That book sucked. It dragged on forever, and nothing exciting ever happened. Than after having to go through that, we had to watch the boring movie too!

Well I read in my Freshman year: When I Was Puerto Rican Really great book about a young puerto rican girl growing up in puerto rico and moving and adapting to nyc when she's 13. Animal Farm I didn't really like it. It seemed to drag a bit. Night It was pretty good but too short. Sophomore Year Things Fall Apart Interesting book. It takes place in an African Tribe focusing on this one guy born to a poor family. He hates his father since he never worked hard enough to support his family. The guy also trys to work hard to earn his family a good name but gets banished from the tribe later on. To Kill A Mockingbird I love this book. Junior Year The Scarlet Letter This focus pretty much on how the Puritans treat those who committed adultery and shows their cruelness toward those who did. Fool's Crow I didn't like this book because there were too many characters to remember and the names were weird like "White Man's Dog" and "Yellow Kidneys". A Farewell To Arms If you're into historical and romance books, this is for you. It takes place in Italy during WWI about this American serving in the Italian Army and he meets this English nurse and fall in love. The book is pretty sad though...

hmm... when i was in 6th grade we had to read a lot of books. the only ones i remember are a wrinkle in time and number the stars. both were really good. in 8th grade my teacher tried to get me to read watership down. i really hated that book with a passion. i just couldn't get into it at all. freshman year we had to read black like me. it was actually a pretty good book, though i never finished it because didn't have the time to. the last school book i read was catcher in the rye, sophmore year. i didn't like it all that much. it was ok but just seemed like it had no point.

The Scarlet Pimpernel? Ack! That movie was the worst! I had thought it was called "The Purple Pumpernickel" or something. We haven't had any real assigned books for a while. I'll be in 9th grade this coming year, so I'll definately have some assigned books. In my school, you can read any book you want. We have some program where you can check any book out of the library, read it, and take a computerized quiz on it which goes toward your Reading grade. It's more enjoyable for the students, because they can pick their own book on a variety of reading levels.

i know there must have been more than that... i didn't mind reading them -- a few are actually some of my favourite books.

I just got done reading 'The Red Badge of Courage' for my Reading/Drama/Creative Writing class (they're all together). It was so boring. I kept skipping chapterrs in it and stuff and all the pop quizzes and then the final test on it made my grade go down from a 100 to about an 88 or 90. I absolutely HATE required reading. If we have to do it, they could at least let us read good books. Right now I'm read 'Izzy Willy Nilly' by Cynthia Voight and I just got finished reading 'Homecoming' by her. They are both very good books!

A lot of the books I had to read at school were pretty bad. They were extremely boring and useless, in my opinion. However, I have read some good books in class. Tess of the D'Urbervilles is one of my favorite books, and I read it in 10th grade English. So I can't say that every book I've read in school was bad.

Ooh. I read When I Was Puerto Rican, Slaughterhouse Five, and Catch-22 for pleasure. (Actually, I'm still in the middle of Catch-22.) I remember reading Things Fall Apart in 5th grade! It was a pretty cool book. This year, we've read: *Catcher in the Rye *I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings *Huckleberry Finn *1984 All really good books. I got lucky with books this year. Love, ~The Kitten~

Right now in English we're reading Merchant of Venice (Shakespeare). It's okay but definitely not something I would read on my own time. It's hard because it's written to be a play, not a novel, and a lot of the words aren't used in modern day, so you have to look them up to know what's going on.
