"Brendan Shanahan lines up the shot--HE SHOOTS, HE SCORES AND THE DETROIT RED WINGS WIN THE STANLEY CUP."
That was an awesome game, I came in an hour and a half before the end. Those power plays were tight, and that one shot that went in and bounced out of the goal. Yikes, but that's what made the game exciting.

It's official: Swedish Goalie for the Red Wings has retired and will go back to Sweden. So we lose an awesome athlete. Oh well, he has a business there and wants to go back. Chris Chelios won't be back either because they can't pay him the 2 million bucks for two years. Mike Illitch, Red Wings owner is too tight with the money. Official Red Wings Joke:Arturs Irbe (Carolina Hurricanes Goalie), after living a full life, died. When he got to Heaven, God was showing him around. They came to a modest little house, with a faded Carolina Hurricanes flag in the window. "This house is yours for eternity, Arturs Irbe," said God. "This is very special; not everyone gets their own house up here, you know." Irbe felt very special, indeed, and walked up to his new house. It was a solemn moment. On his way up the porch, he noticed another house just around the corner. It was a huge three-story mansion with a bright Red and White sidewalk, an 80 foot tall flagpole flying an enormous Detroit Red Wings flag, and in every window a Red Wings logo. In the front yard was a sign that said, "Welcome to Hockeytown." Irbe looked at God and said, "God, I'm not trying to be ungrateful, but I have a question. I have had many accomplishments and won many awards in my hockey career, and I think I am one of finest goalies in the NHL." God asked, "So, what do you want to know, Irbe?" "Well, why does Steve Yzerman get a better house than me?" God chuckled and said, "Irbe, that's not Steve's house, it's mine!"

Ahahaa...that was a funny joke Anyone heard the Red Wings parody of Eminem's song "Without Me"? Too funny! Listen to it here, it's awesome! www.wsnx.com/features/stuff/wostanley/I live near Hockeytown so I get all the Detroit radio stations and let me tell you, this is played more than Eminem! Yeah! But...Toxic...I know about Hasek, but Chelios? The news this morning from Detriot was that it's not decided yet. Where did you hear that? Was that 2 million a year for 2 years, or 2 million for both years? That's actually not that much compared to what others are paid. Olausson is probably retiring too, but the Wings have their eye on Belfour. Hmm...we'll see.

/\ So Fellow Hockey Towner, wherebouts do you live? I'm about 20 minutes out of Detroit.
Oops, yep, that was Dominik Hasek that's leaving.
Okay so Chelios is undecided yet? Sorry bout that, I was catching the news in bits this morning. I think if he stays, it will be 2 million for two year. But now I'm not sure.
They were playing those songs on WRIF. I've heard the Eminem one, but I like the AC/DC-like song being played too. Remember in 1997 when the Wings won and the song then was, "I Want Stanley," which was from Bow Wow Wow's, "I Want Candy."

^I'll PM you of where I live. I'm a little hesitant about declaring that publicly on the net. I'm about a 20 minute drive from the Joe.
On the radio (Channel 95.5) this morning, they said Chelios was undecided, and the same thing in the newspaper. Hopefully that's the case because he's a valuable part of the team!
Yeah, I remember "I Want Stanley!" That was on ALL THE TIME, OMG! Ahh...good times.
GO WINGS!

Hasek? Swedish? He's about as Czech as they come! On some of the mailing lists that I'm on, many people are very... perturbed that he used Detroit like that. Esp. since a lot of the Red Wings love Detroit (Fedorov, Yzerman, Chelios, to name a few). Somehow I think Chelios will stay. Fedorov's contract is up next year, he'll probably stay too. Larionov is a free agent I believe this year, and he's in talks (or was it next year? Hmm.). All I know is, they better keep the good ones around, and try and make a goalie stick.

/\ You can't have him, so there! <<Hasek? Swedish? He's about as Czech as they come! >> True, I should have . . . czeched my post. ******************************************** I just heard on the news that Chris Chelios has been signed on for another year with the Red Wings, and Curtis Joseph, a.k.a. "Cujo," has been signed on as Goal Tender.
