 ~`Horsesalltheway DIY board`~
« Thread Started on Feb 9, 2002, 1:38pm »

Well, I've transfered my thread over here... Here are all of the tips I have put at razz...

bedspread: For your bedspread you could just use some boring old plain colored thing... and then get that thing that you can attatch those tiny metal things to fabric with. I forget what it's called. Anaway, then you could put it along the top edge. Then you could put a whole load of pillows along the edges that touch the wall.

curtains: Take an old white sheet, cut it to fit your window and fray it along three edges keeping one edge straight. Then tie die it and hang it up with safety pins or paper clips on your curtain rod!

~Get a green rug and put that on the top shelf of your dresser. Then get out all of your stuffed animals and stick them on top of it with their back to the wall. Then, put an old blue towel or blue sheet of paper, behind them on the wall so it looks like the sky. Then, Add a little sun with construction paper in the corner of your 'sky'!

You need help buying or making a rug???
Hmm... You could knit one if you know how to knit, or you could crochet one. Or you could buy some denim at a craft store and hot glue gun on some beads saying "welcome" or "hot" or something like that. Then you could cut it into a circle, heart, or rectangle and fray the edges! I've never tried it but now that I have my creative juices flowing I might have to! Or you could just find a place that sells really cheap rugs and buy them in every color of the rainbow and maybe blow paint them. Or, one of my more favorite ideas that I just thought of! You could use an old matt from the car (those rubber ones) and decoupage it and then hot glue gun some pretty lace around the edges. (you'd glue it on the back side so you wouldn't see the glue) Anyways, I'll answer any more questions and keep posting my ideas!

~ I bought some elastic thread and used a needle to thread on skittles in the pattern of the rainbow to make a pretty colorful bracelet!

~ I also recently made a necklace with some pink lanyard and some those little squishy candy bears. I coated them in glitter and threaded them onto the lanyard. I used three with the two on the outside being different.

~ Made a belt out of measuring tape, secured it with ribbon and glue gunned pennies all over it! It's kind of heavey but it shapes with my waist nicely.

~ I collaged my whole one side of my door with modge podge and magazines! It looks SO great!

~ I also made a wall hangy thingy out of an old hunter green toilet seat and then I wrote a big "N" on it with pop can tabs.

~ I also made a pretty mirror border with this mirror thing that didn't have any border. I cut up a bunch of construction paper and just glued them in no particular pattern all the way around the mirror.

~ Smily face border around closet: Pick up some cheap smiley face wrapping paper at the dollar store and cut out even strips of it and tape it up around your closet, It makes it look happier!

~ Carpet: No matter what color carpet you have this one works! Start collecting rugs of all different colors and shapes and just put them anywhere and everywhere over the carpet just showing a bit of color. It brightens up the room SO much!

~ Bed: Put on some soft color bed spread and put all your different pillows along the edges against the wall. Then it will be extra comfy, plus you'll have somewhere to show of your pillow collection when you have people over!

~ If you have an old night stand or any type of table that you dont use heres what you can do with it. Have an umbrella propped up over it and have your stuffed animals on it on a beach towel. Also, what I did, was I put a light in behing the stuffed animals to turn on as a night light so it looks like the sun is shining through them.

~ Just below my window I have a pattern of old AOL cd's that I always get in the mail. I turned them down shiny side up and taped them up in a pattern like this:
O O O O O O
O O O O O
You can also use your old Britney Spears cd's and stuff. It looks really pretty! And then when you're done that, what I did was cut out all the letters of my name from old magazines and put it right underneath it. The affect is really cool!

~ To diplay your candles set up a type of podium on the top of your bookshelf with boxes so that it looks like a sort of pyramid. Now, cover it with a pretty pink old sheet or something and display the candles with one on each level.

~ On one of your other walls you can hang up mirrors of every size and shape that you have. It looks really pretty cause you can see part of you in each of them when you stand in front of the wall.

Something I like to do with jeans...

~Get a pair of old flares or wide legs or straight whatever style you like. Then, cut along the edge of the pockets to get a bit of a fringe. But anyway, Then you can do that to the bottom of pant legs and anywear on denim stuff. And, you can unravel it even farther and put beads on the strings. Also something you can do with jeans... Sew letter beads along the edge of the pockets saying your name or 'hot' or one of those all to cliche words. But I would be more original with what you put on them...

-Horses..... it's me Julz.  Yeah, this is regarding your crafty thread that you have.  I think that before you post, you should make sure all those ideas were yours, because if you got them from someone else, that is their idea, and you need permission to post it as one of yours, which, in fact, it is not.  Am I right?  Because I know one of those ideas isn't yours, because it is mine, and I told you about it.  I also posted a message like this to you on Razz in your thread, but you ignored it. Now I'm not going to get all mad and pissy about this, I'm just sharing this bit of info with you.  I think it is proper etiquette for a person to atleast give credit to the person who thought of the idea, and deserves the credit for it.  But, without permission, the idea is not yours, and it is not right if you take it from someone and claim it is yours.

well, I just thought I'd inform you on this.  I'm not trying to be a bitch, I'm just letting you know.

Thanks

Julz

^^I noticed that too, and I was going to say something, but Julz beat me too it  ;) They are good ideas, but when I first read them, I knew they looked awful familiar, and that's when I realized that they were very similar or the same as those that Julz posted in her "Julzie's Home Away from Home" thread on Razzberry.  So, like Julz said, in the future, if the ideas aren't yours, be sure to mention that they aren't, and if you know where they're from, let us know (this is helpful too because we can check out the source for more ideas that weren't posted here).  I don't mean to be accusing or anything, just thought I'd add my two cents...

The only ones that aren't COMPLETELY my idea are these:

~Get a green rug and put that on the top shelf of your dresser. Then get out all of your stuffed animals and stick them on top of it with their back to the wall. Then, put an old blue towel or blue sheet of paper, behind them on the wall so it looks like the sky. Then, Add a little sun with construction paper in the corner of your 'sky'!

That one is from someone else but I modified it a bit so it is mostly mine.

~ Bed: Put on some soft color bed spread and put all your different pillows along the edges against the wall. Then it will be extra comfy, plus you'll have somewhere to show of your pillow collection when you have people over!

That was mine... I know alot of people use it but I thought of it to post here by myself.

That was a modified version of someone else idea.

~ To diplay your candles set up a type of podium on the top of your bookshelf with boxes so that it looks like a sort of pyramid. Now, cover it with a pretty pink old sheet or something and display the candles with one on each level.

That was a modified version of an idea that Julzie told me but it wasn't completely hers. The podium was but that wasn't completely.

Anyways, the rest were all mine.

I just made an anklet out of links, sequins and tiny beads. It's quite cute! The links are gold and every other O has a small white bead or a sequin. I'm wearing it right now!
I had a sudden surge of DIY-hormones and I made a purse out of the pockets of my dungarees. I still have to figure out how to make it look good :P
My next project are some photo frames to put all my pics of my friends (as soon as I have them developed...).

Does anyone know of any tips on how to make your own wallet? I don't really dig the idea of making one out of tape but any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
